December 17 – Lesson Learned. What was the best thing you learned about yourself this past year? And how will you apply that lesson going forward? (Author: Tara Weaver)
Though the lessons started when I got sober, this year I definitively learned that the best way to get through hell is, as Winston Churchill so eloquently noted, was to keep going. I learned that spiritual growth comes from pain, not pleasure, and that sometimes you just have to hold your breath and take the plunge and hope for the best.
As for going forward: knowing I can keep walking through the pain means that I’ll be able to do it next time troubles or grief or other pain comes my way. And there’s always a next time. The only question is whether it will be a little hell or a large one.
