I’ve been avoiding reading Elizabeth Lesser’s Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow since I purchased the book shortly after Jack died. But after Sunday’s dip back into deep grieving, I decided to get started. Since then, I’ve seen three copies of the book at thrift stores…leading me to believe that, yes, it was definitely time. I’m not a believer in god with a capital ‘G,’ but I am a believer in opening my eyes to reality. So as painful as it is to think about my grief as a turning point rather than just a big “F*** You!” from the world, I’m getting through Lesser’s book. Sometimes putting a positive spin on things is a choice made from knowing it’s the right thing to do instead of wanting to do it.
